2008 Conference Highlights

Sunday’s Keynote:  2:00 – 3:30pm  Marcia Smith, MA, CTRS, H/FI

“Growth Occurs Because of the Willingness to Change:  What Changes Must the Profession of Recreational Therapy Wade through to Grow and Thrive?”
Often we discuss changes that are occurring around us and their impact on the profession, but we as professionals must also look inward for changes needed to impact the profession

Sunday Evening:  Exhibitor’s Social with ATRA Medicare Project Auction 5:15-7pm
Our Exhibitor’s Social will be hosted in the Crystal Ballroom.  Take this opportunity to view what our vendors have available for you to enhance your ability as a professional.  There will be light horsd’oeuvres and an opportunity to socialize with other professionals.  During this social the MESTR Conference Committee will host a Silent Auction.  All monies raised will be donated towards the ATRA Medicare Project to further our progress towards national recognition for reimbursement for recreational therapy services.

Sunday Night:  Social at “Seacrets” Jamaica USA on the Bay 8-10pm
Join us for an evening out in Ocean City at Seacrets Bar and Grill on 49th St.  Music, dancing and door prizes to be won for a fun-filled night on the Bay.  Transportation will be available via the Ocean City bus transit.  Schedules will be available at the registration desk.

Monday Evening Social:  7:00 – 9:00pm
Music on the back deck with “Big Wide Grin”
The 32nd Annual Mid-East Symposium is proud to welcome “Big Wide Grin” (Formerly known as E.L.K.).  This bi-coastal trio of Elaine Dempsey, Lawrence Lambert & Karl Werne, hailing from California and Virginia, bring such diverse backgrounds of experience, music and theater together to form a rich, soulful blend of character and harmony so deep and dynamic, it will move you to an understanding of their name, Big Wide Grin.

Tuesday’s Endnote:  10:30 – 12:00pm  G.T. Thompson, M.Ed., CTRS, NHA

“The Recreational Therapy Medicare Project”
The ATRA Recreational Therapy Medicare Project is making significant advances in access to R.T. issues experienced by Medicare Beneficiaries.  The projects national co-chair will discuss the status of this project.
